About the Instructors

Dr Richard Shaffer

Dr Richard Shaffer is a UK-based radiation oncologist and is founder and CEO of RT-ABC, set up to educate radiation oncologists in the treatment of benign conditions. He is passionate about this subject and has treated more than 3000 patients with radiotherapy for benign conditions, including Dupuytren's, Ledderhose, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, keloid scars, osteoarthritis, tendinopathy, and bursitis.

Dr Shaffer has previously provided training and mentoring to fellow consultants starting benign radiotherapy practices in the UK and co-wrote the Royal College of Radiologists guidelines for benign conditions. He was responsible for the English translation of the German benign radiotherapy guidelines in 2022. He has written and reviewed multiple scientific papers and textbook chapters, including co-authoring the first American case series of radiotherapy for osteoarthritis (ASTRO 2024).

Additionally, he is the founder and president of the International Society for Radiotherapy for Benign Conditions (www.iorbc.com), Medical Director of XStrahl Limited (https://xstrahl.com), and is a member of the International Target Volume Group for Benign Diseases.


Dr Bobby N. Koneru

Dr Bobby N. Koneru is a Northwestern University trained, board-certified Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Medicine physician specializing in the treatment of cancer and functional disease.

Utilising advanced techniques such as IMRT, SBRT, SRS, and Pulsed low dose rate radiation therapy, Dr. Koneru is able to deliver precision radiation therapy to all cancer sites.

Dr. Koneru also uses radiation therapy to treat various functional diseases such as osteoarthritis, Dupuytren’s contracture, plantar fasciitis, keloids, and various other inflammatory conditions.

He is a TEDx speaker and has given many national talks on radiation medicine.


Prof. Dr. med. M. Heinrich Seegenschmiedt

Prof. Dr. med. M. Heinrich Seegenschmiedt has been a Radiation Oncologist since 1990 and since 2018 with the Ergea Radio Oncology Network in Aalen, Germany.

He is Co-Founder and serves as Clinical Chair of the International Organisation for Radiotherapy for Benign Conditions (IORBC). He was the co-founder and has been the head of the German Cooperative Group of Radiotherapy for Benign Disorders between 1995 and 2022.

Prof. Dr. Seegenschmiedt is co-author of the German Guidelines on Radiotherapy of Benign Diseases and chief editor of the international textbook on “Radiotherapy for Non-malignant Disorders” (Springer Publishers) and other books. He is also co-author of chapters on benign diseases in various international radiotherapy textbooks. Moreover, he has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles.
